After a colleague of mine played the game, she just let out her thoughts about the state of students’ math abilities in schools. From this year onwards, secondary school students are able to use their calculators for all math examination papers. It used to be 1 paper that does not permit any usage of a calculator.I guess it is widely thought that by the time students are in Secondary Schools, they would have the basic ability to calculate simple equations in their heads and of course how to operate any calculating machines.
I know there are *crazy* (not in a bad sense) people out there who can churn out answers to long math equations in their heads in a few seconds. But these will be a dying breed here I guess.
Anyway she said something about future people not able to add up their grocery bill without fishing out their mobile phones form their pockets that can do basic calculations for them.
Are our minds becoming lazier or that we simply choose to make use of technology so that we can better make use of our gray matter for other more crucial decisions in life?
Are we too reliant on technology?
